Palm Sunday, March 28, 8:00AM (CHAPEL), 10:00AM with childcare (BRICK CHURCH):
We will joyfully welcome Jesus' entrance into Jerusalem, waving palm branches and singing "Hosanna in the Highest." But, as soon as we know that he will not fulfill our human hunger for power, we will turn our backs on him and shout with the angry crowd, "Crucify him!" The travesty of it all should shock us in this opening scene of Holy Week.
Monday in Holy Week, March 29 - Service of the Tenebrae 7:00-8:00pm at the Chapel: The one-hour liturgy of Tenebrae (Latin for "shadow") is characterized by the gradual extinguishing of candles while a series of readings and psalms are chanted: A most symbolic and lyrical preparation for the sanctity of Holy Week.
Tuesday and Wednesday in Holy Week, March 30and 31- 12:00PM Holy Eucharist (Rite I)
at the Brick Church: A quiet, sublime, and contemplative service for all.
The Sacred Triduum: Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter
Maundy Thursday, April 1 - 7:00PM Holy Eucharist with Footwashing and Stripping of the Altar at the Chapel:
As we remember the poignant institution of the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist by our Lord, we will also heed his words to love one another and wash each other's feet. The service will end with the reservation of the consecrated sacrament in one kind with the procession to the altar of repose. The altar will then be stripped bare to signify the terror of Jesus' impending humiliation. All Night Watch: From the conclusion of Maundy Thursday and throughout the night, we watch with the Lord and wait in prayer in the church, responding to Jesus' plead to his disciples, "Can't any of you stay awake with me for just one hour?"
For security reasons, it is important for you to sign up on the master list to ensure we have at least two or more people in the church at all times.
Good Friday, April 2 Stations of the Cross 11:00am at the Chapel Cemetery: Together, we will walk the Via Dolorosa, the way of sadness, contemplating the suffering and death of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Mass of the Pre-Sanctified with Veneration of the Cross 12:00pm at the Chapel: At noon, the very hour of Christ's crucifixion, we will stand watch in stark disbelief. We will have a chance to come to the cross to lay our hands and our burdens on it as we pray for the salvation of all of humanity. We will conclude this service with the reception of the reserved sacrament consecrated the night before: hence, the "Mass of the Presanctified." The somber spiritual "Were you there when they crucified my Lord" will reverberate in our souls as we retreat to our homes to hide away in mourning. The Prayer Book Good Friday service lasts for one hour.
Ecumenical Stations of the Cross at 7:30pm at Holy Family Church
Holy Saturday, April 3, Proanaphora (Liturgy of the Word only) 9:00am at the Chapel: We will begin this day with just the Liturgy of the Word, and nothing more, signifying the barrenness of the day after our Lord's crucifixion. "Proanaphora" signifies the portion of the liturgy before the Eucharistic Prayer.
Children's Easter Egg Dyeing Saturday, 10:00am at the Parish House: Please arrive with at least one dozen freshly boiled eggs to dye. For questions concerning the dying please contact Kirsten Deichman at 410-353-7244.
Easter Sunday, April 4- 8:00AM Holy Eucharist (Rite I) at the Chapel , 10:00AM Holy Eucharist (Rite II) at the Brick Church: The reason of our being, the Feast of all feasts. It is our triumphant holy day with the might, majesty, magnificence, and magnitude that surpasses all human understanding. Indeed, Christ is risen from the dead, trampling down death by death; and on those in the tombs, bestowing life. We will be truly lost in wonder, love, and praise as we celebrate the concluding glory of Holy Week and the Feast of the Resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
